Fans of Instagram, the social
media platform which has more than 75 million active users per day globally,
gathered in Queensland to share photographs of some of the most beautiful spots
on the planet, and to bring the Instagram ethos of sharing and community to
life with their world record attempt.
Instameets started with the
sunrise and continued on until sunset, meeting everywhere from the beaches of
the Gold Coast, to the Great Barrier Reef, to the Queensland Outback.
Others had flown from as far away
as the Unites States, the United Kingdom and Germany specifically to join the world
record attempt. All were able to boast huge Instagram followings, some in the
hundreds of thousands.
Those who chose to dive on the
Great Barrier Reef were overwhelmed by their experience: “Very cool, very cool.
We couldn’t believe it. The fish are everywhere. They just want to get photos
with you. It’s so cool.” says Elisa Detrez from France.
The world’s largest Instagram
meet was organised by Tourism and Events Queensland to help photographers share
their experiences, connect with others and profile Queensland’s amazing
destinations.
