CANADA
CANADA
Located in north America, Canada is the second- largest country in the world. Often experiencing bitter winter’s, it is home to Ice Hockey, and the Winter Olympics 2010.
VANCOUVER
Vancouver is the perfect location for anyone in a wheelchair and has a reputation for being one of the world’s most accessible cities. Culturally diverse, there is much to see, including visiting, Granville Island, watching the sun set at English Bay and watching shows at the Aquarium. Stunning sights of sea and mountain can be seen as you pass through Stanley Park and the Sea Wall.
Restaurants and bars provide disabled toilets and transport is not a problem, with accessible trains, and ramps to get onto buses. If using a scooter, buses can be slightly awkward to drive onto, depending on size and scooter experience. If you cannot transfer into a car seat, accessible cabs are available, which allow you to stay in your wheelchair.
Although the city is full of hotels, there seemed to be a shortage of those with accessible bathrooms. I stayed at the Marriott Pinnacle , which was located downtown, and provided a friendly service. The toilet had rails and the bath had a board to sit on with a shower overhead.
