They may be touted as the 'must-see' destinations for any
travellers' bucket list, but two thirds of UK adults (66 per cent) have never
seen one of the Modern Wonders of the World, according to new research.
The Modern Seven Wonders, said to represent global heritage throughout history,
were voted for by over 100 million citizens worldwide and include Christ
Redeemer, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Petra, the Pyramid at Chichén
Itzá, the Roman Colosseum and the Taj Mahal.
More than two thirds (68 per cent) of those surveyed by Direct Line Car
Insurance were unable to name any of the modern wonders but of those who did,
the Great Wall of China was the most well-known (11 per cent).
The study also looked into people's knowledge of the Ancient Wonders of the
World. Of these, the Great Pyramids of Giza were the most commonly known, with
more than half (54 per cent) stating the correct answer.
