Manners Lost?

Brits are forgetting their manners at formal occasions, a survey has found.

According to the Crep Protect survey, many of us are wearing trainers to a wide variety of events from job interviews to the opera, signalling a shift in what is deemed appropriate attire at some of the most formal events we’ll ever attend. The survey also found that over a quarter (29%) of us believe wearing trainers to a job interview is acceptable:  over one in ten (13%) has actually worn trainers to a job interview, and a further 16% would if the occasion arose.

Other highlights of the research include:

·          Nearly a third of us (29%) believe it’s acceptable to wear trainers to a funeral according to a new research project into the UK’s love of trainers by footwear protector Crep Protect. The survey found that one in ten of us (12%) has actually turned up to a funeral wearing trainers, and a further 17% would if the occasion arose.

·         Over half (54%) believe wearing trainers to a dinner party is acceptable: nearly a third (31%) has actually worn trainers to a dinner party, and a further quarter (23%) would if the occasion arose;

·         Over half (56%) believe wearing trainers to the theatre or Opera is acceptable: over a third (35%) has actually worn trainers to the theatre or Opera, and a further fifth (21%) would if the occasion arose.

·         Two-thirds (66%) believe wearing trainers to a club is acceptable: 44% has actually worn trainers to a club, and a further fifth (22%) would if the occasion arose

·          70% believe wearing trainers on a date is acceptable: almost half (49%) actually has worn trainers on a date, and a further fifth (21%) would if the occasion arose

·         Three-quarters (75%) believe wearing trainers at work is acceptable: half (50%) actually has worn trainers to work, and a further quarter (25%) would if the occasion arose.
