Escape The Blues

January blues cause searches to tropical destinations to surge.




The latest figures from Hotels.com
reveal that Brits are searching for holidays to warmer climates in 2015 to beat their January blues.

Top of the list for short haul flight destinations was Malevizi (Crete) which saw a huge surge in hotel search increases of 403%. Tarragona (Spain) came second, racking up a 285% increase, shortly followed by Lagoa (Portugal) with 247%.

Long haul flight destinations to tropical shores have seen an incredible rise too, as Brits look set to leave the dreary weather behind. El Nido (Philippines) showed the highest increase, with a percentage rise of 356%, whilst searches to Boa Vista (Cape Verde) rose by 247%.

Transatlantic destinations have proven to be very popular, with five entering the top 10 list during January – Mexico features with Riviera Maya notching up a 235% increase, whilst Albuquerque in New Mexico achieves an impressive 213% rise. Mauritius and the Maldives also make it into the hotlist, with searches up 226% and 211% respectively.
