Kingsbridge Food Festival - Friday 30th - Sunday 1st June:
Now in its third year, the 2014 Kingsbridge Food & Music
Festival is a celebration of the best food and live music Devon can offer.
Running from Friday 30th this year’s festival has something for every member of
the family and entry is FREE!Food lovers will be in their element , with Middle Eastern and Southern Indian food, as well as wood fired pizzas, char grilled Steaks, Sushi, proper Devon Pasties, Thai and Chilli sauces, real ale and wines, meringues, cream teas, puddings, ice cream and much more. The Heron Valley cocktail and cider bar will be running throughout the event.
On the music front, there will be an eclectic mix ranging from folk, blues and classical, to up-and-coming dance DJ’s, Ska and funk bands. Acts include: Sam Fearon, Panda, Chippie Tucker, Hazaar, The Sheikhs, Dr Oz, and Three Men in a Wok. The festival will also feature the not-to-be-missed, irrepressible 8-piece funk band ‘Freshly Squeezed’; and next-big-thing, the energetic soul band, ‘Yes Sir Boss’, who have played alongside Joss Stone, and featured on BBC Radio 1’s Rob Da Banks show, as well as on Radio 2, and 6 Music.
The Big Jam will take place on Sunday 1st musical Jamming session (open invitation for anyone to download the chords and music from the website and come along with their instrument to play!). Talented young musicians are also encouraged to come along on Saturday and Sunday mornings until 11am to busk and showcase their music.
Dartington Food Fair - Saturday 31st May - Sunday 1st June:
Local food celebrities and chefs, as well as a few from further afield, are lining up to take centre stage at this year’s The Shops at Dartington Food Fair. The family friendly fair, is set to be bigger and better than ever before. Come and join James Strawbridge, Glenn Cosby, Jane Baxter, Michael Sanders and many more to be highly entertained.
TV presenter and chef James Strawbridge, of ITV1’s The Hungry Sailors fame, will be making two highly anticipated appearances on the Sunday. Pasty expert and founder of The Posh Pasty Company, James will be judging the fair’s tasty new ‘Bake a Pasty Competition’. Keen home bakers simply need to bring along their delicious homemade pasty of any size, shape or flavour by 10.00am to be in with the fantastic chance of winning a £150 The Shops at Dartington gift voucher.
In addition to the impressive line-up of chef’s demonstrations, visitors will also be able to sample and buy from over 50 of the region’s best food and drink producers all of whom will be showcasing their delightful products. Producers attending include Luscombe Organic Drinks, Tom’s Pies, Ashridge Cider, Partridge Farm Meats, Rugeroni Ltd and The Bloomberry Juice Company as well as many other well-known names.
A brilliant day out for all the family, there’s sure to be something for everyone over the two days.
Royal William Yard Good Food Market - Sunday 1st June:
The extremley popular market showcases some of the best local food and drink in the South West.
The market takes place between 10am and 3pm on The Green, Royal William Yard, Plymouth on the first Sunday of the month.
The Good Food Markets have been a huge success, with over 30 stall holders from Devon and Cornwall in attendance, including River Cottage, Thom Hunt from Channel 4’s Three Hungry Boys, the Red Earth Kitchen, and Cornish Orchards, with many stalls regularly selling out of produce.
People visiting the market in the ex-Naval Victualling Yard can travel by the Royal William Yard Ferry, from the historic Barbican, and enjoy spectacular views of Plymouth Sound and Mount Edgcumbe, Cornwall en route. The market itself enjoys views of the Sound and Royal William Harbour.
If visitors want to explore more great food, in lovely surroundings, they can also retire to River Cottage Canteen & Deli, Seco Lounge, Prezzo or The Royal William Bakery for lunch.
UK Chocolate Chomping Competition - Saturday 31st May:
The Big Sheep’s annual Chocolate Chomping Championship will take place at the famous fun family attraction in Bideford, North Devon on Saturday 31st May at 1pm and the only qualification you need to enter is to be a choc-o-holic! The Chocolate Championship is a fun event sponsored by Asda Bideford to raise funds for their chosen charity, ‘Tickled Pink Campaign’ which was launched in 1996 with the aim of raising money for and awareness of breast cancer. Contestants will pay a nominal fee of £2 to entry and will not be charged an entry fee to the BIG Sheep.
The Chocolate Competition will involve various chocolate treats from chocolate bars, ice cream, covered fudge and toffee, so you really will have to prove your love for calorie coated ingredients.
Even if you don’t want to enter the competition but like indulging in chocolate then The BIG Sheep’s the place for you to be on Saturday 31st May as lots of FREE chocolate treats will be on offer for ALL our visitors including Chocolate treats from Asda Bideford. Pheobe Gibb, the resident cook from the BIG Sheep’s Bo Peep restaurant will be declaring her restaurant a chocolate cake zone and will be tempting customers with a delicious array of scrumptious chocolate cakes and says, ‘This will be a day when no-one is allowed to do any calorie counting but a day to just enjoy a treat without guilt.’ So whether it’s milk chocolate you like or, white or dark chocolate, The BIG Sheep will be place to treat your taste buds.
