Scooter Warning!

Warning for uninsured scooters.

UK mobility scooter ownership is likely to hit 400,000 this summer, but with more users than ever believing they have some sort of insurance cover for equipment that can cost thousands - and weigh hundreds of kilos.

But Mark Effenberg, Chief Executive of Blue Badge Mobility (BBM) says the fact is that users are rarely covered as comprehensively as they might believe.

"Mobility scooter and powered wheelchair users often believe some element of their home contents or car insurance covers the risk of loss of injury, but the fact is that it rarely does - if at all," he said.

"Big general insurers don't really understand mobility equipment, or the size and complexity of the risk. They tend to align wheelchairs with bicycles in terms of loss or damage being an inconvenience."

Hampshire-based Blue Badge Mobility, which will be at the
http://www.naidex.co.uk/ disabilities support services and equipment show at the NEC, April 28-30, 2015, provides mobility equipment rescue and recovery, insurance covering use, protection and liability relating to scooter, wheelchair and home equipment, care-related insurance products, as well as advice on sourcing and use of mobility equipment.
