New York! New York!

New York has today been revealed as the top overseas destination for UK travellers in 2014 ahead of other cities across North America, Europe and Asia.

The latest data from Hotels.com's Hotel Price Index, a regular report based on actual prices paid in 2014 compared with 2013, reveals the Big Apple to be Britain's top choice of holiday destination abroad.

Internationally referred to as the cultural and financial capital of the world, with iconic sights such as the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and Central Park, it's no wonder New York has climbed to the top spot throughout 2014, putting Paris in second place second place for the first time in three years. The HPI revealed a complete reshuffle in the top five destinations in 2014, with Amsterdam coming in third, closely followed by Dublin and then Rome - pushing Las Vegas to sixth place and out of the top five altogether.

In spite of the record inbound visitor numbers to the UK, predicted for the second year running in 2014, it seems there has been no change to UK destinations which attract overseas visitors, with all five remaining cemented. London was once again the most visited city with Edinburgh coming in a close second. Following the Scottish capital was the popular northern city, Manchester with Liverpool and Glasgow completing the top five. The only new entry this year was Inverness taking the penultimate spot in the top 20.
