Insurance for Amputees

Amputees and the limb impaired can now benefit from access to bespoke home insurance products following the launch of a new scheme by charity Limbcare.

Limbcare — which was established in 2010 by quad amputee Ray Edwards MBE to support amputees, the limb-impaired and their families — has entered into a three-year deal with broker Arthur J. Gallagher, which designs and develops specialist insurance schemes for people with pre-existing medical conditions and disabilities.

Under the new deal, Limbcare Insurance Services will provide buildings and contents insurance, with features and benefits tailored to meet customer requirements, from its specially trained team experienced in meeting the needs of those living with disabilities, extending the offering into travel insurance in due course.

Buildings and contents insurance can either be purchased separately or together as a package policy. Its comprehensive insurance for contents can cover damage to or loss of prosthetics and orthotics, mobility aids and mobile medical equipment on a new-for-old basis, while its buildings insurance can encompass stair lifts, hoists, lifts/ramps, door alterations and wet rooms in addition to standard features of a buildings policy.
