Accessible Half Term

Families in the South West can enjoy an accessible half term this week.

Families in the South West can get out and about this year with a visit to some of the region’s best family friendly and accessible attractions, reviewed on The Rough Guide to Accessible Britain: Family Days Out microsite.

Created by the same team that brought you the award winning Rough Guide to Accessible Britain; the Family Days Out microsite is a compilation of the best accessible outings from around the country, suitable for the whole family – granny and granddad included!

The website features reviews of accessible family-friendly attractions including the Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, which features over 60 acres of beautiful gardens as well as indoor and outdoor play areas, a nature trail and a train ride. Enjoy a day at the seaside with a visit to the historical Grand Pier Weston-super-Mare. Fun for all the family, the pier which features a number of adrenaline rising rides, a cinema and an arcade, as well as great panoramic views of the beach and out to sea.

For a free family day out, head to Haldon Forest Park which has miles of graded walking, cycling and horseriding trails set in 3500 acres of glorious Devon woodland. The park features two circular 1.5-mile-long “all-ability” trails suitable for wheelchairs, people with restricted mobility and families with push chairs. The Mamhead Sensory Trail, one of the all-ability trails, offers tactile interpretation boards and sensory waymarkers as well as features designed to stimulate the senses. The park is open year-round and has on-site specialist mobility hire, including an all-terrain powered scooter known as a Tramper, to help guests have the best experience possible.

Where will you be going?
