First UK Theme Park To Open Disabled Facility!

Chessington World of Adventures Resort has partnered with The Changing Places Consortium to become the first theme park in England and within Merlin Entertainments Ltd to install a hi-tech new changing facility for customers with disabilities.

For people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as well as other serious impairments such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis or an acquired brain injury, it can often be difficult to use toilets comfortably. However, now disabled guests who visit the Resort will have access to toilets with extra features, such as a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and a non-slip floor, disabled toilet, disabled shower, electrical hoist, and more space to meet the needs of disabled guests with room for a wheelchair and up to two carers.

The Changing Places Consortium is a group of organisations working to support the rights of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities to access their community. The Changing Places Consortium is campaigning for Changing Places toilets to be installed in big public places and its latest installment is at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. Chessington recognised the need for all their guests to be comfortable in the knowledge that both they and their families or carers can enjoy a stress free day out so worked with Changing Places to install this fantastic facility at the Resort.

Grant Worrall, Health & Safety Manager at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, commented:
"We want to ensure that every guest at the Resort feels happy and comfortable during their stay with us and hope that this facility adds positivity to guests' experiences."
